Chris Fox is my spirit animal.
I’m not sure where it happened, to be honest. If I had to guess, I’d say that one of his videos probably popped up on my Youtube feed while I was banging my head against my keyboard. I’d been trying to get this short story idea out of my head, and it was morphing and changing so much that I couldn’t make sense of it. I’d try put it down on (digital) paper, only to come back a day later and change things.
That’s when I came across Chris Fox’s videos and it turned me around. There was something about his instructional approach that connected with me on some basic level. I found myself making notes, planning rather than pantsing (because sanity), and the spaghetti mess that was the story in my head was not only coming together, but building.
This video by Chris Fox, Brainstorming Your Premise, really helped put me on the right track. For the first time in a long time, I feel like my writing is heading in the right direction.
One short story is growing into a universe. All that’s left is to continue the word count.
